Artillerie a pied de la Garde Imperiale 7e comp are interested in attending the event with a 4-pdr. What support will their be in moving guns and powder issues, plus provision of horses?

Hi Paul,

Naturally we are only too happy to have another gun on the event. The 4eme de Marine always participate and bring their 6-pdr with them, usually with a horses-drawn team.

As far as financial support is concerned, this is an event run completely free of any outside influence (public powers, local sponsor, etc.) in order for the event to be what we, the re-enactors, want it to be. As soon as you get outside money involved, it automatically means you have to do things for it (parades, demos, etc.). So unfortunately, there is no financial help to getting people and/or guns over.

Provision of horses could be possible. The 4eme de Marine, as mentioned, hires a work horse team and there may be the opporunity to hire the Percherons that the Allies have used in the past if the Allies get donkeys to carry some kit about.

Powder supply would be a problem as we cant cross the ditch with any. We would need a horse team to move a gun ideally, or we would be 'shagged out' after half a day. The dates clash with detling next year?

Thinking about it, it would be a lot easier for us to be able to use a gun based in France rather than have to drag ours over the ditch. The 4e marine only have one gun? Could their be a degree of co-operation between the Marine and ourselves?

With regards to powder, we can supply powder to you of 20€/kg but this does need to be sorted out in advance.
La Boissiére 1815 takes place on the 4-5 September 2010 which is the weekend after Detling I believe.

The 4eme de Marine indeed have only one gun. I don't see any reason why both your group and their crew could work together for the weekend. It would just need to be organised in advanced. Please note however that the 4eme are usually based in the traditional camp and not with the LH French.

powder is very expensive in Europe! it is £10 per kg in UK. we would want to be in the LH camp. For us the choice between La Boissiere and Detling will have to be put to the vote as the events are close together for us to hire vehicles for both.

Apparantly, there has been feedback (and rather positive) from the Dutch Horse Artillery group...rumours have it that they want to attend with a wagon of their own + artillery piece and limber with all their own horses!

Can someone in the Nederland please give some feeback on these rumours?
